Your safety on campus

Safety is a priority at Missouri State. You can help by making wise choices and learning about the services in this section.

Basic safety amenities

We have well-lit walkways, cameras in parking lots and card access to residence halls.

City police on campus

There is a Springfield Police Substation on campus, operated in cooperation with the Springfield Police Department. Law enforcement officers work alongside campus safety specialists to patrol campus.

Residence halls 

Halls are equipped with card-access security systems, deadbolt locks on each door, front-desk staff available 24 hours a day/seven days a week and resident assistants on each floor.

Missouri State Alert

The Missouri State Alert notification system will contact you and/or family members to inform you of university closings, severe weather alerts, security alerts or emergency situations. You may have messages sent to you through text messages, emails and/or phone calls.

Safe Walk program

You can request that a campus safety specialist arrive at your location to escort you to a new location, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. You can use the Safe Walk program anywhere on the main campus.

Blue light safety phones

Blue light safety phones are located across campus. If you feel uncomfortable about a situation, just hit the button on the phone. The blue lights will flash and you will be connected to the campus safety office, and an officer will be dispatched to your location.

Training and resources

University safety offers a number of training courses, including Sexual Assault Prevention and Defensive Moves. This course is freeto all Missouri State students, faculty and staff members.

The Engage program is a new multi-level violence prevention program centered on civic responsibility, caring community members and community connectedness.

 Join the Engage Team

The Title IX department oversees all issues having to do with sexualized violence, sexual assault, rape, sexual misconduct, dating and domestic violence, sexual harassment, sex discrimination, stalking and pregnancy rights.
