Getting Involved

6 tips for getting the most out of MSU

1. Stay and enjoy the campus!

You may feel a pull to go home on the weekends. That’s normal, but try to stay on campus instead. In your first semester, you will be invited to a lot of fun activities and will meet people who may turn into lifelong friends. Keep your eyes open for opportunities. Many student organizations post info on bulletin boards, social media or write meeting times on sidewalks around campus.

2. Join a student organization.

Missouri State has hundreds of them. You are sure to find something that interests you, or you can create a new group. BearLink is an online community with info about all of our student organizations. You can log into BearLink from the MSU homepage with your BearPass Login and password.

3. Check out what student engagement has up its sleeve.

This office offers tons of campus activities. Pick One (or many more) of the hundreds of options to get involved, build friendships and explore your interests.

4. Take advantage of university discounts and privileges offered to MSU students.

Some events on campus and in the community are free or discounted when you show your student ID. For example, students get free admission to almost all regular-season home athletic events. Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts also offers discounted rates for students.

5. Talk to friends, classmates, faculty and staff.

Ask your friends and classmates what groups they belong to and join them at meetings. Tell faculty and staff about your interests and ask if they know about any organizations you might enjoy.

6. Seek leadership opportunities.

One of the greatest things about Missouri State is that it’s easy to get involved and become a leader. Choose from academic engagement, student leadership and community engagement opportunities that will help you develop highly marketable skills sought by future employers!
