Transferring Credit to Missouri State University
Bringing college credit with you to MSU
Missouri State recognizes several credit by exam programs and grants credit for certain military experiences, dual credit programs and college courses taken at regionally accredited colleges or universities.
How college credit transfers
Want to know how your college credit will transfer, even those classes earned through dual credit? View our handy course equivalency guides to see how classes compare between Missouri State and selected institutions.
Transfer credit policy
Our transfer credit policy outlines accreditation standards and procedures for determining course equivalencies and information about transfer of grades and dual credit courses.
Credit by exam
College credit earned through credit by exam programs may count toward degree requirements and allow you to take advanced courses earlier. We recognize the following programs:
- Advanced Placement Exams
- College Level Exam Program
- International Baccalaureate
- Military Education and Experience
- Departmental Exams
- Language Proficiency Assessments
Military credit and credit by examination courses do not carry a letter grade and do not impact your GPA.
We cannot transfer credit from another college or university for a credit by exam course. You must request that original score reports from your credit by exams be sent directly to the office of admissions at Missouri State.
High school dual credit
MSU also recognizes credit earned through high school dual credit programs. We need a transcript from your high schools and each college through which you will have earned credit.
The credit and grades you earn through the pre-college dual credit program will become a part of your permanent academic record.
Missouri 42-hour general education block
You can fulfill Missouri State's 42-hour general education block by completing an approved 42-hour general education block at a participating Missouri institution.
