Strategic Planning Updates
Interactive Workshop No. 2 Recap: Values, Vision, Mission Statement and Goals
October 30, 2024
The second interactive workshop took place on Oct. 28 with more than 130 faculty, staff, students and alumni who participated. Dr. Welty gave an overview of the strategic planning process and timeline. He also explained the task for workshop participants, which was to review and provide feedback on the draft values, vision, mission statement and goal categories developed by the Strategic Planning Committee.
After the committee’s co-chairs Zora Mulligan and Dr. Ken Brown shared the draft in more detail, participants worked in small groups to discuss the values, vision, mission statement and goals, and suggest things that should be removed or added. Each group then had a chance to briefly present their suggestions.
Based on the feedback received, the committee will revise the draft and determine the goal categories. Work groups will then be set up to identify outcomes for each goal category. Initial virtual work group meetings will occur the week of Nov. 11. Get more info and indicate interest in participating in a work group.
Missouri State University is in Phase 1 of the Strategic Plan development process.
October 2, 2024
On Sept. 30, the strategic planning committee gathered for its kick-off meeting, where they met with and heard from President Dr. Richard B. Williams and Dr. John Welty, a consultant from AASCU Consulting. Welty gave an overview and timeline of the strategic planning process and discussed the committee’s roles and responsibilities. Committee members also engaged in an activity where they discussed the events, trends and issues over they next five years that would likely impact Missouri State and higher education.
Following the meeting was the first interactive workshop. Several hundred Missouri State faculty, staff, students and alumni, as well as community members attended the event. President Williams thanked the crowd for their interest and participation and Dr. Welty presented on the strategic planning process. After his presentation, participants worked in small groups to provide their thoughts and feedback on several scenarios pertaining to Missouri State’s past, present and future.
Additionally, several small group sessions will take place throughout the week to gather input from various stakeholders on the university’s strengths, areas of improvement, opportunities and threats. The Strategic Planning committee will review the information collected and use it to help identify the major goals for the Strategic Plan.
