Standard Times Process
Scheduling of correct day and evening times within a classroom will be enforced by Space Management. Classes with non-standard days/times must remain in H (held status) until department has received approval of the request.
Note: While it is recommended that all classes follow the standard day/time pattern, graduate level and laboratory class times are not enforced.
Non-Standard Day/Time Permission Form
- Form submission deadline: February 1st for Summer and fall semester/September 1st for spring semester
- Departments will be notified once Space Management has received the request from the Office of the Provost.
- Once approved, the H (held status) can be changed to an A (active status) for the class.

General guidelines
To ensure the best possible opportunities for our students and the most effective use of classroom space, it is important to distribute classes throughout the day.
- Departments offering general education courses should distribute them throughout the day and in a variety of instructional methods for students' benefit and room utilization.
- Departments with one-hour lecture classes on one day of the week should distribute these throughout each day of the week using the same time slot and room.
-
- Note: This will cause a final exam room conflict where one class may require a different room. After second block begins, Space Management will resolve final conflicts.
- MWF offerings should be scheduled throughout the times of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.
- MWF classes meet for 50 minutes each day with 15 minutes between classes. Laboratory classes lasting more than one hour are an exception.
- TR classes should be scheduled in either of the following ways:
- 75-minute periods on both days. Beginning at the proper times.
- Two-hour class on one day and one hour class on the other (e.g., 9:30 a.m.-11:20 a.m. on Tuesday and 9:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m. on Thursday).
- Evening courses (4:00 p.m. or later) meeting once per week should be distributed throughout the Monday – Thursday schedule. Two days per week combinations should also be distributed evenly between MW and TR.
- Departments with block courses should attempt to schedule them in the same rooms and times from block to block.
