FAQ for Camp Claw

The cost of camp is $200 per week which will run June 10th through August 2nd.
Monday through Friday with drop off starting at 8:00am and pick up ending at 5:00pm. Camp programming starts at 9:00am and ends at 4:00pm.
Lunches and snacks will be provided by Missouri State University Dining Services every day. This is built into the pricing of camp fees. If parents/guardians want to provide campers with individualized lunches and/or snacks, they will be stored in the break room or aquatic classroom. Lunch boxes or bags should be labeled with camper’s name.
Refunds will not be issued for camp registration after the registration deadline unless Camp Claw cannot occur due to extenuating circumstances.

Refunds will not be issued for missed days.

Refunds will not be issued for dismissal from camp due to behavioral issues.
The deadline for registration is the Wednesday prior to the start of each camp week.
Camp must be paid in full at the time of registration. Payment is due in full on the Wednesday prior to the week of camp your camper will be attending.
Yes! There will be a waiting list created. Full payment is due the Wednesday prior to each camp week. Thursday prior to each camp week we will begin to pull from the waiting list for spots that have not paid in full.
After the deadline the waitlist will be contacted. In the event that a camp session does not fill, parent(s)/guardian(s) will have the option of an extended deadline of Thursday at 11:59pm.
At this time, there are no discounts available.
You can sign up using https://recportal.missouristate.edu/Program/GetProducts. If signing up before the active semester, make sure to click the summer semester to view the sign-up link.
At this time, there is no financial assistance available.
Campers will be divided into small groups based on age and ability and will have assigned counselors for the duration of the week.

All Camp Claw Staff and Campus Recreation Staff receive the following training:

American Red Cross Adult and Pediatric CPR/AED/First Aid

Emergency response as well as all Campus Recreation and MSU Emergency Action Plans

Missouri State University Campus Security Authority

Child Abuse and Neglect Training

Discrimination Awareness in the Workplace

Title IX: Responsible Employees

All Camp Claw Staff will go through the following background checks

Criminal Record Check

Sexual Offender Check

Adult Abuse Registry

Required to Register with the Family Care and Safety Registry

Campers will be in two locations on Missouri State University’s campus - Foster Recreation Center and Betty and Bobby Allison Recreation Fields. Campers will move between these two locations as a group following a specific and direct path ensuring that all campers are accounted for. Both locations require access.

Campers will never be alone; campers will always be in a group with a counselor and a minimum of two campers.

Camp Claw will teach and reinforce good hand washing technique and covering coughs and sneezes.
All activities are Challenge by Choice. This means campers have the right to refuse any activity, or the right to participate in any activity to their comfortability level. We will not force any camper to do any activity outside of safety related protocols.
Parent(s)/guardian(s) may want to call in to check on their camper during the day. While this is allowed, there should be a reasonable expectation that Camp Claw staff will not be able to immediately respond to their call. The call will be noted, and then information will be passed to the Camp Director who will call back at their earliest convenience.
Camper age eligibility will be 6-11 years old.
Before is offered from 7:30am to 8:00am and after care is offered from 5:00pm to 5:30pm. The cost is $25 for before or after care or $50 for both before and after care.

The minimum ratio is 1 counselor to 10 campers. However, there will be an additional floating counselor for each 20 campers throughout the day as well as Head Counselors and Camp Director available.
Yes, there will be a swimming activity time each day. The aquatic center is staffed with a minimum of 2 American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards. Lifejackets will be available for all swimmers who may require one or wish to wear one.
Campus Recreation staff are responsible to keep all facility spaces clean. Camp Claw staff are responsible to keep camp facility spaces clean. This will be done through the utilization of Hillyard Cleaning Products and a schedule of cleaning duties.

Handwashing and general cough and sneeze protocols will be reinforced amongst campers and camp staff.
Campers are required to wear closed-toe shoes at all times, unless in the aquatic center. Springfield weather is generally hot and humid during summer months. Campers should be wearing appropriate clothing for outdoor weather and are allowed to have light jackets or sweaters in the event they need it. Parents will be encouraged to provide an extra set of clothing in case of accidents.
