Seated (Synchronous)
100% seated in a classroom with a scheduled day and time for classes and exams. Regular and substantive interaction contact with the faculty via the LMS, office hours, email and arranged calls or web conferences.

Blended (Synchronous or Synchronous/Asynchronous)
Blended consists of a seated class component and either an asynchronous or synchronous component.
The seated component consists of regularly scheduled synchronous meeting day and time in a classroom for classes and exams. The seated component will constitute 40%–60% of course instructional time.
The asynchronous component consists of 100% online through the LMS with no scheduled time or place to meet, but regular and substantive interaction with the faculty through the LMS system, email and arranged calls, or web conferences.
The synchronous, web conferencing component consists of a regularly scheduled, synchronous virtual meeting time with class conducted through ZOOM or another web conferencing tool.
Scheduled day(s) and times for both the on-campus and web-conferencing portions of the class are provided upon registration. Faculty will have regular and substantive interaction with students via the LMS, office hours, email and arranged calls or web conferences.

Web Conference (Synchronous)
Web conference consists of a regularly scheduled, synchronous virtual meeting time with class conducted through ZOOM or another web conferencing tool. The syllabus will provide the date for exams. Regular and substantive interaction will be made with the faculty via the LMS, office hours, email and arranged calls or web conferences.

Definitions
- Synchronous instruction is characterized by class time that takes place at a specific day(s)/time(s), in a specific space. Student learning is interactive and happens in real time.
- Asynchronous instruction is characterized by no schedule days/time for class time.
- LMS represents the learning management system. The most widely used learning management system at Missouri State University is Brightspace.
- Per HLC policy, substantive interaction is engaging students in teaching learning
and assessment, consistent with the content under discussion, and also includes at
least two of the following.
- Providing direct instruction;
- Assessing or providing feedback on student’s coursework;
- Providing information or responding to questions about the content of a course or competency; Facilitating a group discussion regarding the content of the course or competency; or,
- Other instructional activities approved by the institution’s or the program’s accrediting agency.
