Getting involved in an extra-curricular activity gives you the competitive edge you need to further your career or apply to graduate school.
Student organizations
There are student organizations for you to join as either an undergraduate or graduate student in the political science department. Student organizations cover a broad range of interest areas and activities.
Career opportunities
There is a wide variety of careers related to the fields of political science, international affairs and public administration. The department has created a listing of careers opportunities in federal, state and local government, as well as international careers, non-profits and politics.
Internships
Internships are a great way to network and gain experience. There are several resources related to finding the right internship for you as a graduate or undergraduate student in political science.
Career Center
Located in Carrington Hall and Glass Hall, the MSU Career Center helps you get the work experience and resources you need to excel. As a political science student, you are invited to participate in the Career Center’s JobTracks program, which automates the scheduling of interviews, career fair registration and similar services. You can also use JobTracks to view job and internship postings.
Professional organizations
It is recommended that MPA students participate in one of the many public administration and public affairs professional organizations.
Education Abroad
Missouri State University offers students an opportunity to spend a semester studying in another country through various exchange programs. For more information contact, the Office of Education Abroad at 417-836-6368.
Logical contest
The logical contest is an annual meeting designed to allow students to test their skills intellectually while learning about philosophy. The idea of the logical contest is to show students outside the program how much they know about philosophy and how beneficial it can be to their degree. The winners of the contest will be deemed most logical and will receive a prize.
Midsouth Philosophy Conference
This annual conference in Memphis is for students to exhibit their skills in front of professors and students from around the country. Students will pre-submit work that they have created for this purpose or work they have from an assignment.
