Our ensemble and symposium
The Jazz Studies Ensemble and Jazz Symposium showcase the performances of talented student musicians, both music and non-music majors.
Jazz Studies Ensemble
The Jazz Studies Ensemble is a 16-18 piece jazz ensemble that performs traditional and contemporary big band literature including historically important compositions and arrangements from the masters of the genre. There are multiple sections of this ensemble and members are selected by audition. Jazz Studies Ensemble is open to all University students, regardless of major.
Jazz Symposium
Jazz Symposium is a small jazz ensemble, generally 4-6 members, that focuses on the improvisational aspect of jazz music in a more intimate setting. There are multiple sections of these ensembles and members are selected by audition. Jazz Symposium is open to all University students, regardless of major.
