String Audition Requirements

Students wishing to audition for a music major in the string area should prepare to:

• play two contrasting selections (contest-type solo pieces are encouraged) demonstrating technique and expression
• play a three-octave scale of their choice
• complete assigned pitch-matching exercises

Because auditions are reviewed by both applied and orchestra faculty, students will be considered for any talent awards along with consideration of their entrance in the music major.

Note

All incoming undergraduate students wanting to audition for a music major must also take the theory entrance exam.
