About Hammons Student Center
HSC was constructed for $5.5 million and is named for Springfield business executive and Missouri State alumnus John Q. Hammons. Mr. Hammons' gift of $1 million to the university helped finance the operation and maintenance of the building.
The mission of HSC is continually supporting the recreational needs of enrolled Missouri State University students, faculty and staff members, and supporting the intramural and intercollegiate athletic programs. HSC has been home to Missouri State athletics since the 1976-77 season. With a seating capacity of 8,846, HSC hosts Missouri State volleyball, swimming events, concerts and community events. In addition, HSC contains athletics and building administration offices, as well as offices for coaches, a lounge area and large varsity locker rooms. HSC is available for recreational use by Missouri State University students, faculty, staff and alumni.
Recreational users of the facility are requested to show a valid University ID card or membership card prior to being admitted. In order to insure only eligible persons use HSC, the south doors have been designated as the recreational entrance and exit. Other entrances are used only for special event programming.
It is the intent of the University to provide a clean, well-equipped and safe facility for all users. Participants are encouraged to be safety-conscious, practice good sportsmanship and abide by Hammons Student Center policies and posted regulations in specialty areas such as the swimming pool and racquetball courts. Failure to adhere to policies and regulations may result in the user being requested to vacate the building and/or a restriction of usage privileges.
