Springfield Youth Wind Ensemble
The Springfield Youth Wind Ensemble (SYWE) was founded in 2017 at Missouri State University, with the mission to educate and inspire young musicians through the pursuit of excellence in musical performance. SYWE is a full concert band composed of outstanding high school instrumentalists (woodwind, brass, and percussion in grades 9-12) whose technical level is highly advanced, who show strong musicality, and who are capable of the discipline necessary to perform in a top-level wind ensemble.
These young musicians are placed in a professional environment facilitating musical progress through regular rehearsals, performances, and interaction with composers, soloists, and conductors. Students will perform and interact with peers from around the state and receive instruction from Department of Music faculty and students. They will enhance their skills as musicians and ensemble performers through the exploration of advanced-level repertoire in an inspired rehearsal atmosphere.
The Springfield Youth Wind Ensemble generally presents one full-length concert at the Juanita K Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts in conjunction with the Missouri State University concert bands.
