Permits

Where you can park on campus depends on your permit type. Find a permit that best meets your needs. Parking Permits are available for purchase beginning July 1st of each Academic year. Summer Permits are sold mid-May thru July. Summer permits are the end of an Annual permit if ordering online.

Black & White striped (overnight) permit

Only students that reside in an official house of a recognized student organization may purchase. Restricted parking only to the 4th and 5th floors of the Bear Park North parking garage overnight but may also park in yellow commuter lots during the day / evening hours. May be purchased in-house for $495.

Blue lot permit

Park in a lot with a sign matching the permit’s lot number and color (blue), or any commuter lot, unless posted “reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week.” If parking overnight it must be in the designated blue lot or BPN garage and not a yellow commuter lot. May be purchased online or in-house for $228 annually. 

Parking permits will be provided at no cost to University guests of faculty and staff if requested in advance from the Transportation Services Office.

We issue reserved permits on an annual basis, upon request from a waitlist. We issue these to faculty and staff members based on seniority.

An alternate add-on to the blue reserved parking permit (must be the same lot as regular permit) may be purchased for $15. The regular blue reserved permit and the alternate add-on parking permit cannot be on-campus / used at the same time.

When a blue parking permit is unavailable

When space is not available in a blue reserved lot, faculty and staff may place their name on a waitlist by using the online Parking Portal or by contacting the Parking Services Office.

Blue West Plains parking permissions

West Plains campus parking permits are valid in blue or yellow lots. For more information on West Plains permits please contact the West Plains Office.

Distinguished Veterans parking hang tag

Veterans who have been awarded the Distinguished Service Cross, Air Force Cross, Coast Guard Cross or any veteran who qualifies for a special license plate under subsection 1 of the State of Missouri Statues RSMO 304.725 can park without charge in any orange, yellow or metered parking areas. May be obtained in-house only at no charge.

  • Distinguished Veterans will need to contact Transportation Services to register their vehicle and receive a Distinguished Veterans parking hang tag to use on University property.
  • Documentation of specialized license plate (vehicle registration) or proof of receipt of military medal (DD 214) will be required to receive a Distinguished Veterans parking hang tag.
  • The Distinguished Veterans parking hang tag is not valid for special events where separate parking fees apply.

Green (residence hall) permit

Park in a lot with a green sign. This includes the third and fourth floors of Bear Park South. You may also park in reserved lots and commuter lots from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m., unless posted “reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week.” May be purchased online or in-house for $238 annually or $198 for Fall/Spring. Residence Hall Students that have a valid parking permit may request a daily permit for their visitors.

Green and White Striped Permit (Heitz House)

Park only in Heitz House Parking garage. May be purchased in-house only at $492 for Fall/Spring.

Motorcycle, Moped and Scooter permit

Buy a permit from the parking administration office. You must register non-licensed vehicles, such as mopeds and scooters (49cc or less), with the Parking Services Office. Permits may be purchased in-house for $27 annually. Electric Scooters at bicycle racks just need to complete the bicycle registration and use the free sticker provided.

Parking locations for motorcycles

Park in designated motorcycle, moped and scooter areas, or in the triangles at the end of the parking row. Do not park in any blue or yellow striped areas.

The university prohibits motorized vehicles, including mopeds, scooters and similar non-licensed vehicles, on sidewalks and bicycle paths.

Orange (remote) lot permit

Park in a lot with an orange sign. Orange lots are 39 and 51. No parking with this permit from 3-5 a.m. daily. May be purchased online or in-house for $81 annually or $67 for Fall/Spring. 

Orange (evening) permit

This permit is valid from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. every day in yellow lots; except Lot 18 6:00 p.m. Friday through 6:00 p.m. Monday and Lot 28 Monday through Thursday 11:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. and from 11:00 p.m. Friday until 5:00 a.m. Monday. Also, may park in any blue lots after 4:00 p.m. until 3:00 a.m. the next day, except posted "reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week." May be purchased online or in-house for $81 annually or $67 for Fall/Spring. 

Orange and White striped (overnight) lot permit

Now combined with the Black & White striped permit listed above. Only students who live off-campus may purchase. Limited parking in lots 39, 51 and the top two floors of Bear Park South Parking Garage. May be purchased in-house only for $495 annually. 

Per course (commuter) faculty permits

Complete and submit the vehicle registration and parking permit request form to the Parking Services Office. Form may be submitted by email to joyrhodes@missouristate.edu, and the parking permit will be mailed to you by U.S. Mail or you may pick up in-house at the Parking Services Office.

Per Course permits are paid for by the Provost Office for any semester that is taught.

Permits need to be returned when not teaching to avoid a charge to your A/R account. 

Purple (service vehicle) supplemental permit

Signed parking spaces will be provided for approved service vehicles. Restricted to two (2) hour parking. Must be approved by Department Head and Manager of Parking. May be obtained in-house only at $228 annually. 

Complete and submit the service vehicle parking permit request form by email to the Parking Services Office at parking@missouristate.edu and you will be notified by a return email when permit is ready to be picked up or may be sent through campus mail by request. 

Purple & White striped Vendor permit

Vendor permits are for business purposes only and are valid in signed service vehicle spaces or non-signed spaces in all other parking lots, except metered spaces / lots. Must be approved by Transportation Manager. Not valid in Lot 6 (Magers Health). May be purchased in-house only for $228 annually. 

Red (residence hall) permit

Park in a lot with a red sign. You may also park in reserved lots and commuter lots from 4 p.m. - 11 p.m., unless posted “reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week.” May be purchased online or in-house for $238 annually or $198 for Fall/Spring. Residence Hall Students that have a valid parking permit may request a daily permit for their visitors.

Silver Special Permit (SP) permit

Silver permits are issued to full-time Faculty and Staff for business purposes only when a Purple service vehicle permit will not suffice due to a frequent need to exceed (2) two hour parking at one (1) location. Silver permits have no time limit in the Service Vehicle spaces, Service Vehicle Only spaces or University Vehicle spaces, but are limited to temporary business purposes only. Normal daily parking with a silver permit is limited to blue, yellow or orange lots. Silver permits will be assigned a home parking lot, but may park in all lots except in metered spaces or lot 6 (Magers Health and Wellness Center) for daily parking or accessible parking spaces, unless requirements of section 7 are met. Silver permits are provided through an approval process on an annual basis for $228 annually. 

Parking permits will be provided at no cost to University guests of faculty and staff if requested in advance from the Transportation Services Office. 

Complete and submit the vehicle registration and parking permit request form to the Parking Services Office. Form may be submitted by email to parking@missouristate.edu, and the parking permit will be mailed to you by U.S. Mail or you may pick up in-house at the Parking Services Office.

Yellow (commuter) lot permit

Park in a lot with a yellow sign, or reserved lots from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m., unless posted "reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week." Commuter Parking is prohibited on all lots from 3 a.m. to 5 a.m. May be purchased online or in-house for $145 annually or $121 for Fall/Spring (students only). 

Parking permits will be provided at no cost to University guests of faculty and staff if requested in advance from the Transportation Services Office. 

Full-time Faculty and Staff may purchase a multi-year permit in lieu of the annual at the same payroll deduction price per month.

Exceptions include:

  • Lot 18 parking is prohibited 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.
  • Lot 28 parking is prohibited 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday,. and closed all day Saturday and Sunday.
  • All yellow commuter lots are closed from 3-5 a.m.

Yellow (commuter faculty / staff overnight) lot permit

Park in a lot with a yellow sign, or reserved lots from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m., unless posted "reserved 24-hours, 7-days a week." May be purchased in-house only for $145 annually. This permit is intended for faculty and staff that are required, by their assigned shift schedule, to work an overnight shift. Bear Pass identification card may be required for verification.

Parking permits will be provided at no cost to University guests of faculty and staff if requested in advance from the Transportation Services Office. 

Exceptions include:

  • Lot 18 parking is prohibited 6 p.m. Friday through 6 a.m. Monday.
  • Lot 28 parking is prohibited 11 p.m. to 5 a.m. Monday through Friday,. and closed all day Saturday and Sunday.
  • All yellow commuter lots are closed from 3-5 a.m. *Exception: Third Shift employees of the University will be allowed to park overnight with correct permit.
