Energy Conservation

As we approach the time of year when electrical demand reaches its peak, Facilities Management would like to ask that you help us reduce our peak electrical demand. Higher usage on campus coupled with summer temperatures combine to cause the electrical demand on campus to reach its peak. This peak energy consumption will impact utility costs for the University for the entire fiscal year.
In order to minimize the effect of the peak demand on our energy bills and allow us to be good stewards of our resources, Facilities Management will be taking the following measures to reduce our energy consumption:
- Setting any unused spaces into unoccupied mode.
- Raising indoor space cooling set points to 75 degrees Fahrenheit.
- Reducing the amount of outdoor air that is brought into buildings – where practical.
You and others in your building can help us with the following:
- Turn off electrical equipment and appliances that are not in use.
- When leaving your office or classroom, turn off lights and computers if you are not returning for some time.
- Turn up the thermostats in those spaces where they are accessible.
- Ensure doors and windows are shut.
- Close blinds to keep out direct sun where practical.
We encourage you to subscribe to the Administrative Services Notifications Blog where we will post notifications encouraging energy conservation during times when we are approaching peak electrical demand on campus.
Thank you for your cooperation as we work to use our resources wisely during this period of increased electrical demand. By stepping up and working together as a community we can make a difference.
