Centennial Leaders Scholarship Program
The Centennial Leaders scholarship is a program designed to provide recipients the opportunity to develop their leadership skills in order to excel in campus and community leadership roles, while providing academic financial assistance.
Scholarship
The Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders Scholarship is a four-year scholarship program jointly funded by a generous donation from the Hutchens family and a matching contribution by the students at Missouri State. The scholarship provides to recipients up to $2,500 of financial aid per year. The program is designed to recognize deserving students who exhibit outstanding leadership potential. To receive financial aid and acceptance into the program, applicants must excel in three of the four areas:
- Leadership
- Volunteerism
- Performing Arts
- Athletics
Centennial Leaders Program
The Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders scholarship program is an four-year program. The first year is designed to integrate the students into the campus, granting several opportunities to develop their personal leadership style. The first semester in the program is the most intensive, including the following aspects:
- Welcome Banquet: A meet and greet dinner to get to know all the scholarship recipients, facilitators, faculty, and staff.
- Leadership Workshops: A 5-week course led by second-year CL students that meets once every other week to teach students valuable leadership skills.
- Fall Weekend Retreat: An all expenses paid weekend long leadership retreat including a ropes course at the Encounter Cove Conference Center in Roach, MO.
Over the next seven semesters, students will constinue to participate in annual events, designed to sharpen various leadership skills, develop a deep self-awareness, and prepare them for life after college.
Students can look forward to the following activities:
- Building Leaders For Tomorrow Sessions: Special workshops focused on professional development.
- Centennial Leaders Interviews: Assist in interviewing incoming Centennial Leader applicants.
- Socials: Opportunities for peers to get to know one another.
- StrengthsQuest Retreat: Attend a day-long retreat to learn about personal strengths/weaknesses
- Behind-the-Scenes Day: Travel around campus and the greater Springfield area to learn about collaborations in the university community
- Service: Annual volunteer opportunities within the Springfield community.
