Missouri State Alert Guidelines and Support
Type of Alerts
Missouri State Alert is used in the following situations:
- Immediate threats/violent situations on campus
- Security alerts
- University closings
- Severe weather alerts
- Emergency situations of an extreme nature
- Periodic testing
The system is not used for advertisements, marketing messages, or to communicate events.
Other notification mechanisms
The university may also warn the campus community through other methods:
- Messages on the Missouri State and West Plains home pages
- Blue-light safety phones
- Two-way radios
- Vehicle public address speakers
Who sends the alerts?
Springfield campus alerts may be authorized by the following individuals:
- President
- Vice president for administration and finance
- Associate vice president for administration and finance
- Director, department of university safety
West Plains alerts
West Plains campus alerts may be authorized by the following individuals:
- Chancellor
- Dean of student services
- Director of strategic communication
- Coordinator of student life and development
- Acting dean of the college
