Empowerment

  •  Get to know yourself so that you know what you want and need.
  •  Make a decision and commitment to change the parts of you that get in the way.
  •  Work on lessening and getting rid of the negative self-talk in your head.
  •  Open yourself up to hearing the positive comments from others.
  •  Don’t take yourself too seriously.
  •  Be aware of, and make choices that lead to good feelings about yourself.
  •  Re-examine your relationships with others and make changes that will help break destructive patterns.
  •  Don’t be afraid to ask for help.
  •  Develop a supportive environment.
  •  Set realistic goals.
  •  Take risks.
  •  Seek feedback from healthy people about your strengths and weaknesses.
  •  Develop communication and assertion skills.
  •  Participate in organizations or groups which work toward particular goals.
  •  Build self-confidence by
    • Saying positive things about yourself aloud to others.
    • Writing positive notes to yourself and placing them where they can remind you of your strengths.
    • Give and receive more hugs.
    • Do the hard work of developing meaningful communication with another person.

 Therapy is often helpful in processing through empowerment issues.
