Become a Preceptor

Clinical preceptors are a vital component in the training of future MSU PA students. In fact, half of the 24-month training program is spent with clinical preceptors. There are many benefits to becoming a clinical preceptor including 1) it helps to stay current with knowledge and best practices, 2) provides an outlet to the routine of daily practice, and 3) provides an opportunity to screen potential future colleagues.  There are additional benefits to becoming an MSU PA clinical preceptor.  

Faculty Appointment

The program offers partnering clinical preceptors who meet specified criteria the opportunity to be appointed as a clinical adjunct graduate faculty member with MSU. This is not an honorary appointment but rather an official appointment. This appointment requires supporting documentation and meeting specific eligibility requirements such as being a preceptor for at least 3 rotations every year over 3 consecutive years.  This appointment would be beneficial should a clinician decide to make the transition from full-time clinical practice to academia. These appointments are eligible for renewal every two years.  

CME Category I

For PA-trained preceptors, the program awards category I CME through AAPA for precepting a MSU PA student. Individual PA-trained preceptors may be awarded AAPA Category 1 CME credits at a rate of 2 AAPA Category 1 CME credits per PA student per 40-hour week, with no limit.
