Repeat Policy Impact on Course Changes

The University's Repeat Policy impacts curricular actions for both course changes and new courses. 

Impact to course changes:

• If the change is a course number change, students who have taken the course under the previous course number but repeat the course under the new course code will be subject to the repeat policy. This means that the attempt under the new course will REPLACE the attempt under the previous course code. 
• It is important when making course changes to consider whether students can retake the class under the new title, course number, description, credit hours, etc. and allow it to replace an earlier attempt. If it is not the case that students can replace previous attempts of the class with the updated course, contact curriculum@missouristate.edu. This could be a situation where the current course needs to be deleted and/or a new course created.

Impact to new courses:

• If a course can be repeated for a maximum of credit hours, be sure that a "May be repeated for a maximum of X hours."  statement is part of the course description. This will allow the student to take the course for up to that maximum number of credit hours before the repeat policy will apply. 
• When creating a new variable topics course, the maximum number of credit hours must be designated. The repeat policy will begin applying to the student once they've attempted the maximum repeat hours as listed in the course description. 
  • The course description must contain "May be repeated for a maximum of X hours."
  • Example: 

    PSY 197 Topics in Psychology

    Selected topics especially appropriate for lower division students (examples: meaning of death, preparation for marriage, and child rearing practices). May be repeated for a maximum of 4 hours.
