Graduate Assistantships
General Requirements
Graduate Assistantships are available to assist students with expenses while studying for advanced degrees. To be eligible for a graduate assistantship in the music department, a student must be admitted to a graduate degree program at Missouri State University. Preference will be given to students admitted to the Master of Music degree program. Since most Graduate Assistants in the music department have some teaching duties, applicants should have a particular musical expertise to be considered. The student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0 on the last 60 hours of undergraduate course work, or a minimum GPA of 3.0 on 9 or more hours of graduate course work. Graduate Assistants work up to 20 hours per week.
The graduate assistantship provides a stipend for the academic year (nine months) and a tuition scholarship for up to 12 hours of course work in fall and spring semesters for a total of 35 credits. A graduate assistant is required to complete a minimum of 6 hours of graduate course work (600-700 level) during each semester of appointment. Additional information on graduate assistantship requirements is available online.
