Physical Therapy Pathway Year Three
By the end of year three, students pursuing the PT Pathway must complete the following requirements:
HPS Retention Requirements:
- Earn a cumulative GPA of at least a 3.5; GPA may not fall below a 3.25 in any semester
- Accumulate at least 275 hours of clinical observation, health-related volunteer experience, internship, or direct (hands-on) patient healthcare experience
- Receive positive supervisor evaluation at clinical observation site
- Continue active membership in at least one student healthcare organization (e.g. Pre-PT Student Association)
- Schedule and complete a mock interview with the MSU Career Center
- Attend at least one group advisement session conducted by the HPS Committee
- Declare an HPS pathway (PA, PT, OT, AUD) by the BEGINNING of year three
- Declare an undergraduate major by the BEGINNING Of year three
- Provide evidence of endorsement of MSU Public Affairs Mission through completion of a minimum of 30 hours of community service (please note - hours completed through service learning or for scholarship renewal will be counted)
PT Pathway-Specific Requirements:
- Courses that must be completed with a "C" or better:
- PHY 123: General Physics I
- Statistics - PSY 200, SOC 302, MTH 340

Courses that must be completed with a "B-" or better:
- BMS 307: Human Anatomy
- BMS 308: Human Physiology
- 100 of the required 500 total clinical experience hours must include direct observation of licensed physical therapists in at least four different settings. Students should be active in the Pre-PT Student Association by this point in their academic career.
- Pre-PT student association membership is required of students in the PT pathway
- Students may wish to take additional life science classes to help strengthen the application
- Failure to meet any of the above requirements may result in probation or dismissal from the HPS program
