Before applying for a Direct Graduate PLUS Loan, accept all federal aid that has been offered to you following the instructions listed on your award notification.
Applying for a Graduate PLUS Loan
The application process
We recommend that you wait until after May 1 to apply for a PLUS loan for the fall of an academic year. Applying too early for a PLUS loan could cause your credit check to expire before the loan is processed.
Follow the steps below to apply for a Graduate PLUS Loan:
- Complete the FAFSA
- Log on to the Federal Student Loan website with your Department of Education PIN to complete the Federal Graduate PLUS Direct Loan Application, the Direct Graduate PLUS Loan Master Promissory Note and the Direct Loan Graduate Entrance Counseling
- Access, complete and submit the MSU Graduate PLUS Loan Form to the office of student financial aid.
Loan certification
Missouri State will certify the amount of loan eligibility for the Graduate PLUS Loan with the Department of Education once it receives notification of completion of the Graduate PLUS entrance counseling and a completed Graduate PLUS Loan application.
Disbursement of funds will take place as scheduled after the federal Department of Education has a credit approval and confirms they have an e-signed MPN. Processing of this loan includes the calculation of eligibility based on the student’s cost of attendance minus all other aid.
