Student, faculty, and staff action research group to host racial allyship conference in March during Women's History Month

Join this provocative conversation about campus racial allyship on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 7:00 p.m., in the Plaster Student Union Theater. The Unlikely Allies Conference (UAC) includes a campus-wide lecture and book signing with Dr. Karen L. Dace (2012), author of Unlikely Allies in the Academy: Women of Color and White Women in Conversation. Masks are recommended and social distancing will be enforced. The UAC was conceived of by a group of Black women at MSU to promote dialogue about racial allyship as a transformative strategy for institutional change and is being sponsored by the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning; the Division of Student Affairs; and the Division for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

About the Author

Karen L. Dace is Vice Chancellor for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. She is also an Associate Professor in Communications Studies in the College of Liberal Arts and has taught courses in and written about intercultural communication, race relations, the construction of gender, and the empowerment of women of Color. Dace holds bachelor's and master's degree in Liberal Arts and Mass Communication, respectively, from the University of Illinois at Chicago and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. In 2012, she published an edited book, Women of Color and White Women in Conversation (Routledge) which brought together ten women of Color and ten white women to discuss the challenges of working across race in university settings.
