Used oil generated on the campuses of Missouri State University will be sent off-site for recycling or energy recovery. Oil will be removed by a licensed hauler and tracking documents, including certification or proper disposal, will be maintained in the Environmental Management office.
All used oil containers must be marked with the words “Used Oil”. Used oil generally comes from oil changes in University equipment (mowers, compressors, small vehicles, etc). The term “Waste Oil” is reserved for oily waste that contains other regulated contaminants such as elevated levels of solvents or metals, or listed hazardous waste (generally only occurs in specialty laboratory apparatus).
On the Springfield campus, used oil is accumulated in drums in the Used Oil Storage Room on the southwest side of the Central Stores and Warehouse building (adjacent to the Grounds Department). Used oil should be transported to the storage facility in sealed containers, and then emptied into the drums labeled "Used Oil". If you have questions about what can be placed in the used oil drums, or need other assistance, please contact the Environmental Management office at 417-836-8334 or 417-836-3108.
