Only air-purifying respirators will be used by the Environmental Management Department. Air-purifying respirators remove particulate, vapor, and gas contaminants from the air prior to inhalation. Canisters designed to remove solvent vapors, acid vapors, and organics will be used when bulking wastes and combining wastes in the hazardous waste storage area or responding to reports of leaking containers or fumes in a lab.
