Due to concerns regarding punctures and cuts when handling trash containers, waste and broken glass must be placed into a broken glass box or cardboard box labeled "broken glass". The box should then be sealed with tape and may then either be placed into the dumpster or placed near the regular trash for custodial services. Small containers of broken glass may be placed directly into the trash can.
Glass and glassware from labs:
- Glass and glassware that may be contaminated with bio-hazards and that will be disposed of through the bio-waste disposal company must be containerized within a cardboard box and the boxed placed within a red plastic bio-hazard bag. The bio-hazard bag should then be placed into the appropriate bio-hazard box for disposal by the bio-waste disposal company.
- Chemically-contaminated glassware that is to be disposed of must be placed into waste glass boxes. The glassware should first be rinsed and should contain no free liquids when placed into the waste glass box.
Persons may use commercially available broken glass boxes or properly labeled cardboard boxes.
