All surplus and waste electronics generated by Missouri State campuses are to be surplussed through the Property Control Unit of the Department of Procurement Services. The electronics will be sold at the Missouri State surplus auctions; proceeds go to the General Fund.
Electronics, including computers, televisions, cameras, phones, radios, tape and CD players, etc., contain circuit boards composed of toxic metals. If disposed of into the sanitary landfill, the metals could leach out and cause groundwater pollution. For this reason, computer monitors and televisions are banned from landfills.
Following the surplus auctions, Missouri State University will strive to dispose of all unsold electronics (e-waste) through a recycling operation in accordance with the following guidance.
Computer monitors and televisions.
These items will be delivered to a computer recycling facility at an agreed upon disposal cost.
All other unsold electronics will be recycled through an electronics recycling facility at no cost to the University.
Video and computer tapes and film
If any sensitive or student data is stored on media, it must be disposed of in accordance
with the university's Information Security policy.
Media may be recycled if a vendor is willing and able to accept the material. Any
disposal cost will be billed back to your department budget.
