All renovation and re-construction work including installation of telecommunication equipment, must be preceded by an asbestos survey to determine whether or not asbestos is present. The only way to adequately determine if a material contains asbestos is by laboratory analysis.
If it is determined that asbestos is present, a plan must be developed to prevent exposure to the asbestos. If friable asbestos is present, it must either be encased or removed. If drilling or cutting of asbestos material is required, precautions must be taken to prevent it from becoming friable or airborne. All asbestos removal work must be done in compliance with city, state, and federal regulations and ordinances. Asbestos awareness training is required for anyone that may disturb asbestos.
