Matthew Boswell
Dr. Matthew Boswell serves as the Associate Director of Bands at Missouri State University where he co-directs the PRIDE Marching Band, organizes the Bearmania athletic bands, conducts the Wind Symphony, and teaches courses in Music Education. Dr. Boswell came to Missouri from the Sunshine State of Florida where he earned the PhD in Music Education with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting and the Master of Music Education degrees from the Florida State University in Tallahassee. His primary conducting teachers were Richard Clary and Patrick Dunnigan. He studied saxophone with Patrick Meighan.
In between his university study, Dr. Boswell taught comprehensive high school bands in Fort Pierce and DeLand, Florida. Bands under his direction consistently received superior ratings at district and state competition and were recognized for their musicality. He holds professional memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Missouri Music Educators Association, and honorary memberships in the Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society, Phi Mu Alpha, and Kappa Kappa Psi.
As a researcher, Dr. Boswell is interested in musical timing, the interaction of education policy and music education, lifelong music-making, and effective rehearsal techniques. He has been published in UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education and has presented at the Florida Music Education Association Conference and the Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Learning and Teaching.
