About Katie
In 2022, I graduated from Missouri State with a B.S. in Communication Studies, a minor in general business and a certificate in conflict and dispute resolution. In 2023, I was able to earn my M.A. in Communication and a graduate certificate in applied communication through an accelerated-MA pathway offered here at MSU. I am from the Springfield area; I grew up in Strafford, MO.
Choosing a college after high school is a big decision! As an admissions counselor, my goals are to help guide you, support you and provide you with resources as you begin your college search. I look forward to being able to assist you with your post-high school plans.
Favorite places to eat in Springfield
My favorite places to eat in Springfield are OMO Japanese Soul Food and Orange Leaf. I love desserts and OMO has fried vanilla/strawberry ice cream that's topped with chocolate and frozen berries, while Orange Leaf has offered discounts to students. I would go to the Orange Leaf near campus to get the marshmallow froyo topped with crushed waffle cone after class almost once a week.
Why Missouri State?
I chose to attend Missouri State for numerous reasons; it's affordable, I was close to my family, some of my friends went here, etc. However, the number one reason for me was the experience I had when I visited campus. Being from the area, I had the opportunity to visit campus for community and high school related events all the time. I was able to not only see what being a student would be like, but I got to experience it in some ways. I would see students studying, laughing with friends, playing sports, etc. and I'd think, “I want to be a part of that; I want to be a Bear.” Every time I visited campus, I would get more and more excited to one day be a student.
Favorite thing about MSU?
My favorite thing about Missouri State is the connections I made while attending. As a student, I was able to form new friendships. I also made connections with my instructors which helped me succeed academically. When I got involved as a student employee and joined campus organizations, I was able to develop professional relationships with individuals who taught me skills I needed so I could reach my goals before and after graduation.
