About Kristin

I joined the Missouri State Admissions team in January 2011. I hold a B.A. in Psychology with a minor in French and an M.S. in Student Affairs in Higher Education. I'm from Cape Girardeau, Missouri. My responsibilities as the Assistant Director for Events, Outreach and Recruitment include coordinating large open house events and programs both on- and off-campus, working with visiting groups, managing Admissions publications, supervising current student employees, and helping prospective students navigate the admission process.

Favorite book

The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah. And not just because the author and I share the same first name. This book is truly incredible. No other book I have read since has come close to comparing! Pick it up at your local bookstore and set aside the entire weekend, because you won’t be able to put it down.

Favorite place to eat in Springfield

Haruno Sushi Bar & Grill. I will never say no to a sushi date at Haruno. The ambiance is both classy and relaxed. It gives off a vibe that feels like you’re in a bigger city.

Why Missouri State?

I toured several colleges during high school. I wasn’t sure what major I would choose or where I wanted to go. It was the campus visit that helped me decide. There were some schools high on my list that I marked off after touring – the campuses didn’t feel right. At Missouri State, I felt at home. I love the size and location of Springfield, the friendly faces I saw when I toured MSU…even the ones who asked if I was lost and gave me directions!, and how much there is to do at a big school with a small-school feel.

Favorite thing about MSU?

Too hard to choose just one! Photos with Boomer, how pretty campus looks in all four seasons, the inclusive environment, how compact everything is so you never have to walk far to get to class or meetings, our fountain, the support system and friendships MSU has given me, and SO MUCH MORE.

Best advice for future students?

Join at least one student organization. You’ll meet people with similar interests and have an instant friend group. Try out clubs and groups, and if they aren’t for you, no big deal! You have the freedom to try new things in college and stick with the things you love without hanging on to the rest.
