Yes, the MPH program at Missouri State University can be completed entirely online. There is also a traditional on-campus option.
Most students choose a mix of online and on-campus courses to complete the degree in approximately 2-2.5 years. The online format is also available for two graduate certificates: Public Health Core and Public Health Administration.
Regardless of the format, all students must complete a field experience, which requires 320 hours at a public health agency or 160 hours (3 credits) at a public health agency plus a capstone project (3 credits). Once admitted to the program, you will work directly with an academic advisor to establish an academic plan of study that best meets your needs.
The MPH program utilizes an open enrollment process, you can apply anytime. However, we recommend that you apply as soon as you can! It may take several weeks to receive, review, and process your application, so please allow plenty of time. You may begin the program in the fall or spring semester. Please review the semester start dates and submit your application at least one month before your preferred start date. If you are an international student, please also refer to the deadlines posted by International Services. Applications must be processed by May 1 for a fall start date, and by October 1 for a spring start date.

The MPH program accepts applicants from a wide range of undergraduate backgrounds, including medical and physical sciences, social sciences, business, and clinical programs. Applicants with any undergraduate degree are eligible to apply.
No, the GRE is not required for the MPH program.
Yes! The MPH program is a STEM-designated program.

A limited number of graduate assistantships are available in the MPH program, with preference given to students who have completed at least one year in the program. These opportunities are shared with students as they become available. Further funding options, including scholarships and other financial support, can be explored through the Office of Financial Aid, the Graduate College, and International Student Services. Please note that assistantships, scholarships, and funding are not guaranteed.
Yes! You can take classes as a Postbaccalaureate student classification (Completion of a bachelor's degree required). Permission to register from the professor may be required. Postbaccalaureate students are classified as nondegree-seeking and as such have limited access to financial aid. If you are later admitted to the program, the courses can count toward your MPH degree. Find out more information at Nondegree-Seeking Services.
Yes, transfer credits are considered on an individual basis after admission. To be eligible, the credits must be from a graduate-level course at an accredited institution and relevant to the MPH program. A maximum of 12 semester hours may be transferred, but all coursework must be completed within eight years.
The MPH program requires 42 credit hours. Most students complete the degree in 2.5 years on a full-time basis. Both full-time and part-time students must complete all requirements within eight years.
Courses are designed to accommodate working professionals and are typically offered in the evenings and online.
Yes, the program allows for part-time study, but all coursework must be completed within eight years.
Research opportunities for students may arise with faculty members each semester. Students may also engage in independent research as part of coursework.
Students with specific areas of research interests should discuss their interests with their advisor to determine if independent research as part of their Capstone is possible.
