In the public affairs concentration, you're an advocate for health policy. You collaborate with a community partner and provide nutrition programming.
Public Affairs Concentration
With the community partner, you will design, implement and evaluate a nutrition policy, program or activity for the public. In addition, you will develop and show media and grant writing skills.
The public affairs concentration builds on the professional practice expectations of the dietetics field.
In this concentration, you will:
- Learn about community partnerships and create relationships with community organizations.
- Develop media proficiency and presentation skills.
- Understand the fundamentals of grant proposal and demonstrate grant writing skills.
Preparing for your practicum
You will locate your own supervised practice site and preceptors for this five-week individualized practicum emphasizing rural health or public affairs.
You will compose three practicum proposals in the first semester of the program that provide a practicum description and schedule.
The program director, faculty, and preceptors all support you in this process to assist you in creating a meaningful learning experience.
