Residency Reclassification - Presence in Missouri for 12 Months / Intend to Make Missouri
Permanent Home for Indefinite Period
To establish residency in the state of Missouri, you must have maintained presence
in Missouri for a minimum of 12 months consecutively and have proof that you intend
to make Missouri your permanent home for an indefinite period. You must first established
residency. Once you have established residency, you may submit an application and
the required documentation so we can evaluate your residency status.
Each circumstance listed below outlines the type of documentation required. Select
each type of documentation for details on which documents can be used to satisfy that
specific documentation requirement.
Residency Reclassification Application
You are under 21 and your parent/guardian lives in Missouri but does not work full
time.
- Proof of your parent/guardian’s physical residence for previous 12 months
Provide one of the following:
Lease agreements.
Mortgage statements or property deed with ownership dates.
Notarized statement verifying physical residence with reasons why lease or mortgage
information cannot be provided for the previous 12 months.
- Your parent/guardian’s substantial reliance on sources in Missouri for financial
support during previous 12 months
Provide one of the following:
Prior year’s State of Missouri income taxes, showing paid income taxes for a minimum
of $3,000 earnings.
Prior year’s W-2, showing paid income taxes for a minimum of $3,000 earnings.
Disability benefits from State of Missouri.
Note: Paycheck stubs are not accepted.
- Proof of dependent status
Provide one of the following:
Parent/guardian's prior year's federal taxes showing student claimed as dependent.
Entire tax transcript is not needed, only page 1 of tax return, outlining dependent
information.
Notarized statement verifying physical residence of student with parent/guardian when
not enrolled.
Copy of divorce decree or legal custody arrangement for joint or sole legal and/or
physical custody.
- Additional proof for your parent/guardian to make Missouri their permanent home
for an indefinite period
Provide one of the following:
Parent/guardian’s voter registration.
Parent/guardian’s vehicle registration.
Parent/guardian's paid personal or real estate taxes from prior year.
- Your parent/guardian’s state identification
Provide one of the following:
Missouri driver’s license.
Missouri state identification (nondriver).
You are 21 or older and live in Missouri but do not work full-time.
- Proof of your physical residence for previous 12 months
Provide one of the following:
Lease agreements.
Mortgage statements or property deed with ownership dates.
Notarized statement verifying physical residence with reasons why lease or mortgage
information cannot be provided for the previous 12 months.
- Your substantial reliance on sources in Missouri for financial support during previous
12 months
Provide one of the following:
Prior year’s State of Missouri income taxes, showing paid income taxes for a minimum
of $3,000 earnings.
Prior year’s W-2, showing paid income taxes for a minimum of $3,000 earnings.
Disability benefits from State of Missouri.

- Additional proof you are making Missouri permanent home for an indefinite period
Provide one of the following:
Student’s voter registration.
Student’s vehicle registration.
Student’s paid personal or real estate taxes from prior year.
- Your state identification
Provide one of the following:
Missouri driver’s license.
Missouri state identification (nondriver).
You and your spouse live in Missouri, but your spouse does not work full time.
- Proof of your physical residence for previous 12 months
Provide one of the following:
Lease agreements.
Mortgage statements or property deed with ownership dates.
Notarized statement verifying physical residence with reasons why lease or mortgage
information cannot be provided for the previous 12 months.
- Your spouse’s substantial reliance on sources in Missouri for financial support
during previous 12 months
Provide one of the following:
Prior year’s State of Missouri income taxes, showing paid income taxes for a minimum
of $3,000 earnings.
Prior year’s W-2, showing paid income taxes for a minimum of $3,000 earnings.
Disability benefits from State of Missouri.

- Additional proof that your spouse is making Missouri your permanent home for an
indefinite period
Provide one of the following:
Spouse’s voter registration.
Spouse’s vehicle registration.
Spouse’s paid personal or real estate taxes from prior year.
Provide one of the following:
Marriage license.
Prior year’s federal income taxes, page 1 only, showing married tax filing.
- Both your spouse’s and your state identification
Provide one of the following:
Missouri driver’s license.
Missouri state identification (nondriver).
