Missouri Returning Heroes Education Act
Op5.21-1 Missouri Returning Heroes Education Act
In support of our student veterans, Missouri State University is implementing the Missouri Returning Heroes Education Act established August 28, 2008, as amended effective August 28, 2019. The act provides that institutions of higher education that receive any state funds, here too shall limit the tuition charged to combat veterans to fifty dollars per credit hour, as eligibility is determined, for any program leading to an undergraduate certificate, or an associate or baccalaureate degree. Also, public institutions must limit the amount of tuition the institution charges to combat veterans to no more than thirty (30) percent of the cost of tuition and fees. The tuition limitation only applies to a combat veteran enrolled in a program leading to a graduate degree, including master and doctorate degrees. First professional programs are excluded, as defined by the University. A "combat veteran" is any person who served in an armed combat zone, as recognized by the Internal Revenue Service on the IRS website, after September 11, 2001, be a registered voter in Missouri, or eligible to vote in Missouri, as determined by the Missouri Secretary of State, or a current Missouri resident, and who was discharged from military service under honorable conditions.
Oldham Family Veteran Student Center will determine if you meet the criteria to be considered for reduced tuition. The Office of Student Financial Aid will determine the amount, if any, that your tuition will be reduced.
