Scholastic Honors
Op3.04-41 Scholastic Honors
Special distinction is awarded to students who demonstrate high scholarship in completing a baccalaureate degree. Honors are conferred according to the requirements in effect at the time of graduation from the university.
Students admitted prior to fall 2004 should reference the catalog year of their admitted term for scholastic honors requirements.
Missouri State credit hours and grade point average include courses taken at the West Plains Campus prior to fall 1995. Courses taken at the West Plains Campus fall 1995 and after are considered to be transfer credit.
Requirements to be met for students graduating from the university spring 2020 and beyond
- Completion of 30 undergraduate credit hours at Missouri State, and
- a Missouri State grade point average of 3.50 or better, and
- a combined (Missouri State and transfer) grade point average of 3.50 or better.
Honors will then be granted based on the lower grade point average of either Missouri State or combined as follows:
- GPA of 3.50 - 3.74 — Cum Laude
- GPA of 3.75 - 3.89 — Magna Cum Laude
- GPA of 3.90 - 4.00 — Summa Cum Laude
Requirements to be met for students graduating from the university prior to spring 2020
- Completion of 60 undergraduate credit hours at Missouri State, and
- a Missouri State grade point average of 3.50 or better, and
- a combined (Missouri State and transfer) grade point average of 3.50 or better.
Honors will then be granted based on the lower grade point average of either Missouri State or combined as follows:
- GPA of 3.50 - 3.74 — Cum Laude
- GPA of 3.75 - 3.89 — Magna Cum Laude
- GPA of 3.90 - 4.00 — Summa Cum Laude
Scholastic honors
Students who meet the above GPA criteria according to the protocol below shall be honored at commencement ceremonies.
- Scholastic honors for spring and fall graduates shall be determined on the basis of their credit hour totals and grade point average(s) at the end of the semester preceding their semester of graduation (and include in-progress hours), and
- Because there is not a summer ceremony, scholastic honors for summer graduates choosing to participate in the spring ceremony shall be determined on the basis of their credit hour totals and grade point average(s) at the end of the fall semester preceding their semester of graduation (and include in-progress hours).
Students who qualify for scholastic honors shall have those honors entered on their academic record and printed on their diploma.
