Simulation Center Guidelines
Overview:
- No food or drink; water allowed in de-brief room only.
- No ink pens or markers; pencils and electronic use only, please check with Staff for tape use.
- Check status board for de-brief room and patient room.
- Clean hands and wear gloves when touching simulators; universal precautions.
- During a simulation, the instructor and operator are considered “invisible”, please do not try to talk, or use hand signals with them. Faculty or staff will address student if needed.
- Keep noise in the de-brief room and hallway to a minimum, other simulations may be in progress.
- Keep room doors closed while simulations are in progress.
- Treat all simulators and live actors (SPs) as actual patients.
- Doctor and hospital staff will communicate through the overhead speaker.
Equipment:
- Scanners do work, use them.
- If an item is in the patient room, or in the nursing part of the storage closet, it is available for use.
- Red Marking will indicate an item may be modified for simulation, or used as a prop.
- If lubrication is needed on a simulator, check with SIM staff.
- Med dispense, supply area, and linens are located in the hallway, outside of room 212E
Simulator Capabilities include:
- Heart, lung, bowel sounds can be heard
- BP, HR, Pulses can be taken
- All adult simulators are available to insert foley and NG
- IV start on male simulators
