GENERAL FUNCTION

The Business Intelligence Specialist in Institutional Research assists Research Analysts to produce deliverables by operating business intelligence software and maintaining research-related databases.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of college courses equivalent to an Associate’s degree is required. A Bachelor’s degree is preferred.

Experience: Experience in programming using PL/SQL, SQL, Argos, Visual Basic, Oracle tools, or similar languages or tools is required. Experience with relational databases and SQL is preferred. Experience with ERP systems and familiarity with Banner, including Banner ODS and EDW is preferred. Experience with business intelligence reporting tools such as Argos or Cognos is preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in thinking logically and creatively is required. Proficiency in creating and maintaining database queries is required. Attention to detail, strong organizational skills, excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate technical information in oral, written, and graphic form to individuals with varying backgrounds, are required. Must be able to maintain confidentiality in regard to information processed, stored, or accessed by the systems. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) is preferred. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: Extended periods of time working at a microcomputer workstation is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Supports the completion of tasks assigned to the Office of Institutional Research by developing queries and program reports to meet external regulations and internal needs.

2. Develops a general outline of the information requested by the end-user.

3. Organizes, updates, and maintains web pages.

3. Effectively resolves report and data problems by conducting a thorough analysis of the problem and employing appropriate debugging techniques to resolve the problem.

4. Maintains research-related databases as required.

5. Assists in developing procedures to enhance the University’s ability to access and analyze information.

6. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

7. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Director of Institutional Research.

8. Contributes to the overall success of the Office of Institutional Research by performing all other duties as assigned by the Director of Institutional Research.

SUPERVISION

The Business Intelligence Specialist – IR is supervised by the Director of Institutional Research and exercises no supervision of others.
