GENERAL FUNCTION

The Graphic Designer – International Programs successfully meets MSU International Programs’ graphic design, logo, and branding objectives by providing exceptional digital, print, and web design that is on time, on target, and within the departmental budget. The Graphic Designer – International Programs is responsible for the design, development, creation, and production of marketing and promotional materials as requested by MSU International Programs, including brochures, flyers, advertisements, etc. The Graphic Designer – International Programs guides social media marketing for MSU International Programs’ social media pages, which may include content writing and providing cover and post images. The Graphic Designer – International Programs will also be directly involved in idea generation discussions related to branding initiatives across various marketing and social channels highlighting MSU International Programs’ activities and special events. The Graphic Designer – International Programs works in a team-oriented environment, with a strong customer service philosophy, working cooperatively with team members and giving and receiving appropriate, constructive feedback, while meeting the department’s graphic and visual communication needs.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, or a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree with an emphasis in Graphic Design or a related field is required. A Master’s degree in Graphic Design, Marketing, or Applied Communication is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: At least three years of experience in graphic design is required. Experience in digital marketing or graphic design work for higher education institutions is preferred. Experience using industry standard graphic design software including InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, Lightroom, Premiere, Muse, After Effects, and Dreamweaver is required.

Skills: Must be able to demonstrate digital and print design competency with a portfolio. Demonstrated talent as a designer is required. Experience and proficiency using Microsoft Office software is required, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Demonstrated experience and proficiency using Adobe products is required, including Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, After Effects, and Creative Suite. Time management skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks with deadlines are required. Excellent writing, proofreading, communication, and interpersonal skills are required. Experience and understanding of how to utilize social media platforms for marketing purposes is preferred. Knowledge of the communications field, traditional and digital advertising, email marketing, and content creation is preferred. Demonstrated hands-on experience with logo design, typography, color theory, print production, image selection, and short video production is preferred.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Manages visual elements, logos, and branding of MSU International Programs, including the production of new logos and designs for various activities and special events, as needed.

2. Guides the creative development and execution of design projects to evolve MSU International Programs’ visual design identity and brand, while also adhering to Missouri State’s overall branding.

3. Communicates and collaborates with various departments within International Programs to understand their graphic design needs for various projects (events, recruitment material, promotional material, signage, videos, etc.).

4. Designs visual and written content via graphic design, visual communication, and digital media. Produces marketing communications such as posters, brochures, signage, banners, flyers, email graphics, and other graphics work.

5. Designs visual templates for email campaigns to fulfill communication needs with current and prospective students and staff on campus.

6. Aids and guides the MSU International Programs’ social media team with all visual needs to maintain a cohesive visual image and message.

7. Leads the branding and design needs of bigger projects such as International Education Month and New International Student Orientation.

8. Maintains proficiency with the latest graphic software and remains up to date on design and industry trends, evolving with best practices.

9. Maintains an archival system of work orders and of departmental photos in digital and print format.

10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the supervisor.

11. Contributes to the overall success of the Office of MSU International Programs by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Graphic Designer – International Programs is supervised by the International Financial and Operations Manager, with work supervised in collaboration with the International Education Marketing & Recruitment Specialist. The Graphic Designer – International Programs may supervise Graduate Assistants and student workers.

Factor 1: Professional Knowledge, Skill, and Technical Mastery

Level 3.0 - 1500 Points: Entry-level knowledge of the principles, concepts, practices, and methods of an administrative, managerial, technical, or professional specialty. Knowledge at this level is typically acquired through a combination of formal education and/or training and experience that includes a requirement for a college degree in a specific technical or professional specialty. Knowledge requirements may also include a limited amount of related work experience. Alternatively, equivalent knowledge requirements at this level include a non-technical or general Bachelor's degree requirement with a moderate level of additional related work experience or a non-specific Master's degree requirement with some related work experience.

Factor 2: Supervisory Responsibility

Level 2.0 - 130 Points: Regular, but limited, supervision, training, or directing the work assignments of (a) small numbers of student, part-time or temporary workers, or (b) one or more permanent, full-time employees. The nature of supervision is largely confined to scheduling work and assigning tasks. Supervision at this level typically does not include a full range of supervisory responsibilities, and supervisory duties typically do not consume a large portion of the work day.

Factor 3: Interactions with Others

Level 3.0 - 250 Points: The purpose of interactions is to advise or counsel others to solve recurring and structured problems, and/or to plan or coordinate work efforts with other employees who are working toward common goals in situations where relationships are generally cooperative. Interactions are moderately structured and routine and may involve employees in different functions, students, and/or the general public. These types of interactions require normal interpersonal skills.

Factor 4: Job Controls and Guidelines

Level 2.0 - 250 Points: The employee carries out a group of procedures using the general methods and desired results indicated by the supervisor. Typically, standard operating procedures, handbooks, and/or reference manuals exist for most procedures, but the employee must select from the most appropriate of several guidelines and make minor adjustments to methods. Unforeseen situations are normally referred to others for resolution. Assignments are related in function and objective, but processes, procedures, or software varies from one assignment to another. Based on the assignment, the employee uses diverse, but conventional, methods, techniques, or approaches. Employees in jobs at this level may perform work that is moderately complex, but normally performed within a fairly narrow and specific functional area.

Factor 5: Managerial Responsibility

Level 3.0 - 850 Points: Work involves providing significant support services to others both within and outside of the department that substantially influences decision-making processes. Work activities are complex and others rely on the accuracy and reliability of the information, analysis, or advice to make decisions. Work activities have a direct, but shared, impact on further processes or services, affect the overall efficiency and image of the department, and may have material impact on costs or service quality within the cost center. Incumbents may be responsible for identifying areas of need and for developing proposals that request funding to fulfill those needs.
