GENERAL FUNCTION

The Assistant to the Program Director, School of Anesthesia organizes and coordinates the operations of the School of Anesthesia and coordinates various public affairs and fundraising activities.  The Assistant to the Program Director, School of Anesthesia provides academic advising, coordinates class scheduling, class enrollment,  and degree program check for entry level and completion level doctoral students.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A Bachelor’s degree is required.

Experience: At least three years of health care experience is required; anesthesia or operating room experience is preferred. Experience with budget preparation and bookkeeping experience is required. Management experience in a health profession and/or academic advising experience are preferred.

Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills are required; excellent interpersonal skills are required.  Proficiency with Word and Excel is required. Supervisory experience is required.  The ability to organize and plan is required; attention to detail is required. Conflict management skills are required.  Familiarity with the anesthesia academic program and surgical management is preferred. Knowledge of accreditation processes is preferred.

Other:  Occasional weekend work, particularly during alumni events, is required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Organizes and oversees admission to the Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) to Doctor in Nurse Anesthesia Program (DNAP).

2. Provides academic advisement for entry level and completion students in the DNAP.

3. Oversees cohort registration and provides resources and information to DNAP students.

4. Assists with marketing of the School of Anesthesia, recruitment and retention efforts, and alumni events.

5. Oversees the credentialing process for all DNAP students.

6. Assists with the review of DNAP student applications.

7. Works with the clinical site coordinator to provide oversight of maintenance and retention of affiliation agreements and clinical site requests.

8. Monitors clinical cases to maintain compliance with Council on Accreditation requirements.

9. Assures current content on the website and develops informational and marketing materials for both web and print.

10. Plans and coordinates activities between students, faculty, and staff.

11. Assures currency of adjunct faculty records and maintains a current roster on the website.

12. Oversees the certified background check process and assures currency at all times.

13. Organize and oversee the departmental budget.

14. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development training, and attending training and courses as required by the supervisor.

15. Contributes to the overall success of the DNAP by performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Assistant to the Program Director, School of Anesthesia is supervised by the Program Director, School of Anesthesia and supervises full- and part-time staff and student workers.
