GENERAL FUNCTION
The Assistant Director of Athletics - Development secures financial support for the department of athletics and teams and serves as the primary support to external Name, Image, and Likeness (NIL) stakeholders including alumni, donors, business owners, representatives, collectives, and other third parties for Missouri State University (“University’) NIL related opportunities and initiatives. The Assistant Director is responsible for advancing the Name, Image, Likeness (NIL) program for student-athletes through marketing and activation efforts to ensure University athletes, coaches, staff, and external stakeholders have the tools and resources necessary to maximize opportunities, ensuring all student-athletes have access to up-to-date information regarding prospective brand relationships and interactions. The Assistant Director shall not (a) receive compensation from the student athlete or a third party for facilitating, enabling, or assisting with NIL opportunities; (b) attempt to influence an athlete's choice of professional representation related to such opportunities; or (c) attempt to reduce such student athlete's opportunities from competing third parties. The Assistant Director reports directly to the Senior Director of Athletics – Development but will also collaborate with and receive direction from the Director of Athletics.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A bachelor’s degree is required. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: At least one year of experience in collegiate athletics, educational leadership, or a related field is preferred.
Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills as well as excellent interpersonal skills are required. Working knowledge of MS Office programs like Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams is required. Knowledge of basic budgeting and accounting practices is required. Demonstrated understanding of NIL is required. Working knowledge of NCAA rules and compliance practices is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those if other cultures or backgrounds is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Assist the Senior Director of Athletics – Development with acquiring financial support for the department of athletics and the University’s intercollegiate athletics teams by encouraging donations from individuals, businesses and other entities in a manner that is compliant with the University’s Title IX obligations.2. Identifies, creates, facilitates, negotiates, supports, enables, or otherwise assists with opportunities for a student athlete to earn compensation from a third party for the use of the student athlete’s NIL, in a manner that is compliant with the University’s Title IX obligations.
3. Creates educational materials, organizing and promoting educational events, sharing student-athlete successes, and other NIL initiatives with external stakeholders including alumni, donors, business owners, representatives, collectives, and other third parties.
4. Works with leadership of any collectives associated with the University.
5. Serves as primary contact for external and internal stakeholders as it relates to NIL.
6. Works with the Senior Director of Athletics Development to coordinate with current and prospective donors in solicitating gifts, in a manner that is compliant with the University’s Title IX obligations.
7. Works with the Office of Athletics Compliance to maintain accurate records on existing and prospective brand relationships and interactions.
8. Continues to stay abreast of NIL rules and requirements, including those promulgated by the NCAA, the athletics conferences in which the University participates, and under federal and state law, to ensure that the University is both legally compliant and current with respect to market trends.
9. Maintains confidentiality within the organization, University, and other external entities.
10. Collaborates with other departments and areas such as student athlete development, athletics communications, marketing, and compliance.
11. Contributes to a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
12. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts and colleagues, attending professional development seminars or conferences, and attending training or courses as required by the supervisor.
13. Supports the overall success of the Athletics Department by performing other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
Assistant Director of Athletics - Development may supervise student employees as assigned.
