GENERAL FUNCTION
The Director of Technology and Data Services, University Advancement is responsible for the management of the recordkeeping systems for the Missouri State University Foundation and Missouri State University Alumni Association. The Director oversees application programming activities and supervises the design, development, testing, implementation, and maintenance of computer systems which support internal functions, The Director oversees the production of various performance reports for senior administrators, the Foundation Board of Trustees, and the Board of Governors.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in a related field is required. A Master’s degree in a computer-related field is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.
Experience: At least five years of experience in installing, maintaining, and upgrading personal computers, hardware, software applications, and servers is required. At least three years of experience involving project management, planning, preparing project cost estimates, and supervision is required. Demonstrated experience in maintaining business operational systems is required. Experience working in a higher education environment is preferred.
Skills: A thorough understanding of SQL and relational databases are required. Must be able to manage multiple projects concurrently. Strong oral and written communication skills and listening skills are required; must be detail oriented. Writing skills must include excellent proofreading, editing, and report writing abilities. Significant management skills in staff supervision and long-term goal setting are required. Must be a self-starter and able to work independently with minimal supervision. The ability to work effectively with a variety of constituencies possessing a wide range of technical knowledge and skills is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Effort: Occasionally required to lift and move boxes of materials and equipment weighing between twenty-five and fifty pounds.
Other: The scope of the job requires some travel and occasional attendance at evening and/or weekend activities, meetings, events, seminars, and workshops. This position may require work managing system upgrades or enhancements during weekends or evenings for minimal disruption to end user processing.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Ensures that the customer relationship management system consisting of nearly three-hundred thousand records of alumni and friends of the University contains information that is current and accessible by coordinating the administration, maintenance and training associated with the customer relationship management system and various other systems that integrate with it.2. Ensures that the biographical and demographical records regarding alumni and donors to the Missouri State University Foundation are both complete and accurate by establishing the organizational structure of soft-copy and hard-copy files and records maintained on donors.
3. Serves as the primary point of contact for divisional technology resources, and infrastructure changes, coordinating with departments as well as external technology and equipment vendors.
4. Oversees automation of the unit’s tasks by supervising the development of appropriate computer programming to support the internal workings of University Advancement and which meets the needs and requests from a variety of campus departments and organizations by working closely with the Computer Services Department and supervising the office’s systems staff.
5. Serves as a resource to University Advancement regarding software and hardware, including installation, maintenance, and upgrades, interfaces with users to determine support needs, and provides training on software.
6. Designs and implements technology plans to meet the goals and activities of University Advancement by identifying and implementing new systems or enhancements to current systems to meet the needs of the staff based on the goals and activities of University Advancement.
7. Oversees the production of reporting and data visualizations that provide information about the performance of University Advancement to senior administrators.
8. Improves existing University Advancement technology infrastructure while working toward the expansion of computing operations by overseeing planning, implementation, and documentation of appropriate information technology systems.
9.Audits and analyzes University Advancement computing systems, processes, and controls
to ensure that all operations are efficient and functional. Serving as the senior
IT authority for the division, assures the security of server systems by managing
security protocols within University guidelines, reviews and evaluates information
security compliance issues/concerns within division, and ensures that the division
is in compliance with the information security rules and regulations of the University
relative to state and federal compliance issues.
10. Provides oversight and management of University Advancement websites, assists
stakeholders on content and structural updates, and ensures production websites are
in compliance with University design and functional standards and guidelines.
12. Supports fund-raising programs by supplying individuals within University Advancement with appropriate available information and computer support necessary to effectively fulfill their responsibilities.
13. Assures donor confidentiality as well as the confidentiality of projects undertaken by the University Advancement by conducting all personal contacts and communications with donors in a professional manner.
14. Communicates the performance of University Advancement and provides information regarding the Missouri State University Foundation and Missouri State University Alumni Association to alumni, donors, friends of the University, and other interested constituencies by corresponding with alumni and friends of the University regarding a variety of topics related to the operations of University Advancement, assembling reports, donor lists, and statistics, and preparing articles for publication in Foundation Annual Report.
15. Supports special projects undertaken by University Advancement by performing alumni records research as well as prospective donor research and providing information that is current and as complete as possible.
16. Facilitates the achievement of established goals for University Advancement by developing and maintaining cooperative working relationships with a variety of University units, particularly Computer Services, Athletics, Enrollment Services, HR, Financial Aid, ticket offices, academic units, and Financial Services and Payroll and representing University Advancement units on University committees and projects.
17. Establishes and maintains professional competency and currency in the field of university development work as it relates to records and research through professional reading and contacts.
18. Participates as a cooperative member of University Advancement by assisting with the coordination of a variety of University events involving alumni and donors, including Homecoming activities, building dedications, athletics events, dinners, and other social functions in order to fulfill various objectives of the University and University Advancement.
19. Contributes to the overall success of University Advancement by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
SUPERVISION
The Director of Technology and Data Services, University Advancement supervises the, the office’s System Administrators the Data Visualization and Reporting Analyst, clerical staff.
