GENERAL FUNCTION
The Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness provides leadership and direction for the Office of Institutional Effectiveness, including the Office of Institutional Research, Office of Assessment and Accreditation, staff, and graduate assistants. This includes data collection and analysis to assist in the creation of performance and operational metrics to support the strategic and operational needs of the university. The Associate Provost ensures the complete, timely, and accurate submission of state, federal, and industry surveys. The Associate Provost will assist with the management and coordination of strategic goals through reviewing, assessing, and recommending improvements.
MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A master’s degree in related field; terminal degree preferred.
Experience: At least five years of position-related experience with an understanding of measurement and measurement systems including standardized testing, survey methodologies, portfolios, and program evaluation. Experience with dashboards, balanced scorecards, and managing a similar office.
Skills: Ability to work independently and to manage multiple projects; ability to analyze and interpret data; demonstrated supervisory skills; excellent writing and speaking skills; ability to relate to other administrative units and to network and collaborate; ability to participate in the facilitation of organizational change; familiarity with development learning concepts; ability to manage budgets; ability to read written instructions and follow procedures; ability to organize and manage processes is required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Pursues opportunities where strategic research can drive significant outcomes – in doing so, serves all portfolios of the Missouri State University team, coordinates overall reporting, and helps to shape data and information into strategic priorities and change needs.2. Supports the strategic planning process and provides leadership for, and administration of, institutional effectiveness and strategic initiatives; including environmental scanning, etc.
3. Delivers descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytics to university stakeholders.
4. Prepares and organizes data to serve as key inputs to the strategic planning process.
5. Ensures that the institutional strategic goals, objectives and performance outcomes are effectively communicated throughout the campus and community.
6. Supervises the collection and documentation of activities to support the accreditation and assessment efforts of the University for institutional, state and national reporting.
7. Directs the collection, analysis, and interpretation of selected institutional data and develops systems for the dissemination of information to various stakeholders; enhances internal and external reporting and analytical capabilities through improved data management that ensures data integrity.
8. Plans for and provides support to institutional leadership with data for informed institutional planning, evaluation, operations, and decision making; employs data mining techniques to identify patterns and establish relationships that inform decisions and assist in forecasting.
9. Leads the report writing function to translate information from various data sources delivering information to university stakeholders.
10. Creates and maintains relationships with all departments to ensure that current needs are met, and future needs are anticipated.
11. Coordinates efforts with the Information Systems to ensure strategic research system needs are articulated and met.
12. Plans for and directs the creation of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual reports (university and departmental level) that include forward-looking, current, and historical University data for use by internal and/or external stakeholders.
13. Ensures proactive data collection methodology in accordance with federal, state, and accrediting association requirements, standards and trends; ensures the accuracy and timeliness of the University’s responses to external data requests from governmental agencies and other associations, including but not limited to IPEDS, state surveys, accreditation, licensure requests, and other miscellaneous requests for information.
14. Provides planning and analytical support and advice in areas of survey research, design, and analysis to support institutional assessment initiatives.
15. Coordinates reaccreditation efforts associated with the Higher Learning Commission.
16. Oversees the creation and maintenance of the institutional key indicators system (dashboards/scorecards).
17. Supports academic affairs’ operations through the timely delivery of metrics and support for research, assessment, and accreditation to academic stakeholders including associate provosts, deans, academic unit leaders, Student Success, Enrollment Management, and other affiliated units within academic affairs.
18. Serves on teams as assigned.
19. Manages and evaluates Institutional Effectiveness staff.
20. Plans and manages the Institutional Effectiveness budget.
21. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.
22. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed.
23. Ensures that miscellaneous assignments related to Institutional Effectiveness are completed in the best interest of the University by accepting and accomplishing tasks delegated by the Provost and assists members of the Missouri State University leadership team with other duties as assigned.
SUPERVISION
The Associate Provost for Institutional Effectiveness supervises the Director of Institutional Research, Director of Assessment and Accreditation, staff, graduate assistants, and student employees.
