GENERAL FUNCTION

The Technology Assistant West Plains is a member of a collaborative work group that performs a wide range of support functions that may change as the technology needs of the campus evolve. This positions job duties may include any of the following as assigned: assist with educational instructional projects, including per course instruction; assist with maintenance and repair of equipment within the technology department; provide documentation and record keeping of assigned work and projects; maintain accurate inventory records of technology department equipment; act as spokesperson for the manufacturing technology programs, perform recruitment to support new students entering educational programs. This position will also be assisting with recruitment (working with students/parents/individuals who walk in and want to know more about the program, tours, phone recruitment, etc.) and will teach at least one class in the technology program (maintenance TEC106).

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Completion of college courses equivalent to an Associate of Applied Science degree with an emphasis on technology-related courses is required; demonstrated skills and training in Advanced Welding / Fabrication; Advanced Industrial Maintenance is preferred. An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Experience: One year of experience General knowledge of computers, welding equipment, fabrication equipment and related technologies; general knowledge of computer systems used in a manufacturing/teaching environment.

Skills: General knowledge of computers, welding equipment, fabrication equipment and related technologies; general knowledge of computer systems used in a manufacturing/teaching environment; ability to learn on-the-job and enhance skills as required to meet changing job conditions; ability to work in a fluid environment that changes frequently and can be crisis driven; ability to maintain professionalism when conducting business and while interacting with co-workers, faculty, staff, and students.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assist with educational instructional projects, including per course instruction; contributes to faculty and staff effectiveness by providing training in the use of presentation systems in the classroom, the course content management system, and other uses of technology in instruction.

2. Assist with maintenance and repair of equipment within the technology department and works with faculty to develop technology-based solutions in support of teaching and learning, assists in the creation and provides support for the use of these technologies.

3. Provide documentation and record keeping of assigned work and projects.

4. Maintain accurate inventory records of technology department equipment.

5. As spokesperson for the manufacturing technology programs, perform recruitment to support new students entering educational programs; maintains a professional and positive rapport with students, faculty, and staff.

6. Follow all procedures to ensure safe working environments; remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses required by the Director.

The Technology Assistant is supervised by the Associate Dean for Career and Technical Education - West Plains. This position does not supervise.

While the scope of improperly performed work and/or equipment or software failure is limited, the nature of the activity may require that emergency repairs be performed.
