Bear Logo Best Practices
Logo and licensing
Individuals or organizations outside of the university who wish to use the Bear logo for commercial purposes must first obtain licensing clearance through Collegiate Licensing Company. University employees may access the Bear logo from the Marketing Toolkit.
Those needing high-resolution marks should contact our office for assistance. Please include the following information with your request:
- Brief description of how the logo will be used, including a graphical illustration or photo, if applicable
- The colors to be used in the logo (maroon, white, black)
- The process that will be used to reproduce the logo (offset/digital print, screen print, paint, etching, etc.)
- A timeline for when the logo is needed and when a proof of its use will be provided
Logo usage on a black background
Bear logos that are reproduced on a black background require special consideration to ensure the correct outcome. A specific logo has been created for use on a black background. Please request this logo from the creative services office.
- The image located at left demonstrates the correct use of the Bear logo on a black background. The border utilizes a thicker, white outline and the "TM" is visible in white.
- The image located at the lower left includes multiple demonstrations of the logo usage. Those with green check marks represent correct use when placed on a white, gray or maroon background. The section of the logo with the red X represents an incorrect use of the Bear logo on a black background. When placed on the black background, the black border around the outside of the logo (as well as the "TM") disappears. Please request the proper logo from creative services if reproducing the Bear logo on a black background.
Logo usage in reverse format
Bear logos that are to be printed or reproduced with white ink or etching require special consideration to ensure the correct outcome. A specific logo has been created for the reversed use and should be requested from the creative services office. Approval of the logo use is recommended.
- The images that include green check marks show correct usage of the Bear logo in the reversed format. The eyes, teeth, nostrils and lines are printed, projected or etched in white, ensuring they are the lightest elements of the logo.
- The image that includes the red X shows an incorrect use of the Bear logo. The eyes, teeth, nostrils and lines are darker elements of the logo.
Best practices
- Ensure the eyes, teeth, nostrils and lines of the Bear are white, or the lightest part of the logo
