1. Roll Call – Mr. Kendall Seal, Committee Member, called the Programs and Planning Committee meeting to order at 10:45 a.m. on Friday, February 23, 2018, on the Missouri State University campus.
2. Approval of Minutes – Mr. Seal mentioned that the first item of business was the approval of the minutes from the December 14, 2017, meeting. Ms. Carol Silvey so moved, receiving a second from Mr. Craig Frazier.
Motion passed unanimously.
3. MSU Honors Program – Dr. Frank Einhellig, Provost, introduced Dr. John Chuchiak,
Director of Honors College. Dr. Chuchiak gave a presentation on the history of the
honors program, the majors and students it serves and an overview of the curriculum
design. He then introduced three students, Ms. Caitlin Schaefer, Ms. Tess Harmon and
Ms. Summer Holmes, who shared their experiences in the Honors Program at Missouri
State University.
4. West Plains Faculty Teaching Load – Dr. Drew Bennett, Chancellor, presented on proposed changes to the West Plains faculty teaching load from 12 to 15 credit hours, noting consistency with state guidance and a potential savings of over $244,000 per year. Dr. Frank Priest, Professor of English-West Plains, presented the faculty response to the proposed credit hour changes, emphasizing this would be a permanent solution to a temporary problem.
Due to time constraints, further discussions will take place at future meetings.
5. Adjournment – Mr. Seal adjourned the Programs and Planning Committee meeting at 12:03 p.m. on the motion of Mr. Gabriel Gore, the second of Mr. Frazier, and the unanimous approval of the committee.
