Missouri State is committed to ensuring that students are provided with a diverse
team of support individuals to ensure academic success.
There are a number of different advisors and professionals that students can be assigned,
each with unique skills and assistance that they can provide. Expand any of the roles
below for a description.
An Academic Advisor is assigned to each student based on their declared program and
assists with developing course schedules that are appropriate for meeting program
requirements for the student's declared major. Students should meet with their academic
advisor prior to course registration each semester, when they are considering schedule
changes, or if they are experiencing academic concerns.
A Minor Advisor assists in ensuring that all graduation requirements are met for a
declared minor.
A Certificate Advisor assists in ensuring that all graduation requirements are met
for a declared Undergraduate Certificate.
Secondary Advisors can be assigned to assist with advising for additional academic
requirements beyond a student's primary major or minor such as teaching certification
requirements.
Honors College Advisors assist students meeting additional Honors College requirements.
Success Coaches partner with students to help with organizational skills, time management,
and general academic and studying skills. A Success Coach can help a student develop
their studying and test taking skills as well as identify academic strengths and weaknesses
to develop successful learning strategies.
Any student can request a Success Coach. Some students are automatically assigned
a Success Coach, including student athletes, Bears L.E.A.D. students, and first generation
students.
A Career Resources Specialist can help with exploring potential careers and various
academic majors to meet these goals. A Career Specialist can also help with professional
development with mock interviews, resume help, and job/internship research.
Staff members in the Multicultural Resource Center assist in providing academic and
cultural programming and services that are relevant to the experiences of all students
with an emphasis on diverse student populations to help students in thriving and connecting
with their peers, mentors, faculty, and staff.
Veteran Student Services engages with students who are using veteran benefits as early
as possible to help them apply for educational benefits, provide certification of
said military benefits, and to help connect students with campus and community resources.
Adult Student Services assists students 22 years of age and older with their transition
or return to Missouri State. This includes financial aid options, childcare, and advising
to ensure that enrollment and transitioning goes smoothly.
International Services supports both admitted and future international students with
support and resources to assist with immigration, student employment, and the processing
of required international documentation.
