UNDERWAY (0-2 YEARS)
Park-N-Ride (Phase One) Construction of this five-level parking structure will begin during the Fall of 1994. The initial phase will consist of parking spaces for 1,241 vehicles, including a covered shuttle bus boarding and drop-off area. The facility will relieve overcrowding of the existing surface parking lots and provide consolidated parking for large events.
Public Affairs Classroom Building This four-story, 139,000 square foot facility will be a state-of-the-art communications and instruction center serving as a formidable west entrance to the campus focusing on the application of telecommunication, computational and visual technologies. Twenty-four classrooms will help alleviate an existing deficiency in academic space. The building also will house the faculty of the College of Humanities and Public Affairs.
Professional Building Renovation of this building will allow for the full use of the second, third and fourth floors in the current facility, which will greatly enhance the resources of the College of Health and Human Services. The augmented space will allow for teaching labs and classrooms for the areas of biomedical science, communication sciences and disorders, dietetics, nursing, occupational therapy, physical therapy and social work.
University College Hall This two-building complex will be incorporated into one structure for the Advisement Center and selected programs of the University College. Temporarily, the facility at 1143 Madison will house the Child Development Center.
Athletic Fields With the addition of the Park-N-Ride facility, many of the existing center campus parking lots will be converted into green space replacing athletic fields displaced for the new buildings and adding areas for student congregation.
PROGRAMMED (2-5 YEARS)
New Campus Union Providing a broad array of facilities, services and programs, the Campus Union will encourage faculty, staff and students to become actively involved in all aspects of student life. Among the amenities offered will be space for student organizations, meeting/banquet rooms, a food court, retail shopping mall, lounge, copy/printing services, bowling alley and various other recreational facilities.
Student Services Center The existing Campus Union building, with its ideal location, will be renovated to house academic services focused on supporting the students. Users will be able to conveniently obtain support from Admissions, Bursar, Career Planning and Placement, Cooperative Education, Financial Aid, Records, Registration and other essential services.
Band Hall The present band department and its services are widely dispersed across campus. The planned location of a new facility, shown just south of the Juanita K. Hammons Hall will greatly centralize the band department and its practice areas.
Child Development Laboratory This facility located near the Greenwood Laboratory School will serve as a laboratory for educating students who seek a career in the field of child development. The building will be designed expressly for its unique requirements.
Support Services Complex This complex located near the campus periphery will consolidate the support services of Custodial, Grounds, Maintenance, Receiving, Vending and Concessions, Design and Construction and Work Control. Additionally, a maintenance facility for the University vehicle fleet and shuttle buses will be included. Traffic congestion in the central campus core will be reduced by the conversion of the support service's current facilities to academic use.
Science Annex Renovation of the current maintenance and general stores facility south of Temple Hall will provide more than 30,000 square feet for laboratories, classrooms and other related functions to support programs in environmental chemistry and materials science for both graduate and undergraduate students.
Pedestrian Transit Mall A transit mall along Hampton Avenue between Madison Street and Cherry Street will facilitate a safe venue for the heavy traffic by pedestrians from the northern edge of campus to the campus core, and serve as a collection point for the enhanced shuttle system.
PLANNED (5-10 YEARS)
Library Expansion An expansion to the west of the current library will allow space for the increased demand for access to academic and research information.
Science and Technology Complex A new facility north of Grand Street will integrate the laboratory space of the Science Annex with additional lab, classroom and office space to complete the Science and Technology Complex. This facility will be linked to the College of Natural and Applied Science programs in Temple and Kemper Halls.
Park-N-Ride (Phase Two) This second phase of the Park-N-Ride structure will add 1,250 parking spaces adjacent to the existing complex. The addition will further the efficient use of parking space, ultimately eliminating the need for existing single level parking.
